At least eight short-finned pilot whales were found dead on a beach in the mangrove forest near Serangan Island, South Denpasar, on Monday February 2. The whales had been dead for nearly a week, according to officials from the Bali Natural Resource Conservation Agency and members of the Bahtera Nusantara Foundation, an organization that focuses on the conservation of marine environment, and their death is most likely because they are stuck in the strong currents. The short-finned whale is one of the two cetacean species included in the Globicephala genus, which is part of the oceanic dolphin family, although their behavior patterns are more skin to those of whales. This type of whale is a protected species.
I have never heard of the short-finned pilot whales before and so I have no idea about what it is. So, I think this type of whale is interesting. I think it is kind of sad to hear about the way these short-finned whales died. Eight might be a small number but if this happens often, soon there will be no more short-finned whales anymore. Maybe the government should try to prevent this from happening again. Maybe the government could do something about it?
Question:
What do you think the government could do to protect the short-finned pilot whales?

the government should protect short-finned pilot whales. Maybe they could make the place in Indonesia called Taman Laut for the whale can live securely. The government could control the whales health and food. Another way is: the government make a law that manage the whales hunting, it helps the government to safe the whales, too.
From Ernesto
Hello,
I agree with you and Ernesto that a way should be found to protect the whales. They are beautiful mammals and it is sad that so many died.
Ernesto's idea of establishing Taman Laut is quite attractive; it would be a sanctuary for whales and just like in Canada and other countries, Indonesia could organize whale watching trips for people to observe whales in their natural habitats. It would be fantastic.
Another way to help would be to train more Indonesian marine biologists; marine biology is not a popular major among university students yet but I think that if we had more experts, they could find intelligent solutions to the problem and advise the government on what to do.
