Fires Ring LA as Thousands Flee

Fires driven by strong Santa Ana winds burned more than 4000 hectares in half a dozen communities around the city. At least 22600 people were ordered to evacuate but no deaths or serious injuries have been reported so far. The Sayre fire, which erupted overnight Friday November 14, 2008, in a forested area near Sylmar, north of Los Angeles, destroyed 3237 hectares and burned hundreds of homes. A fifth of the Satyre fire had been contained by Saturday evening. Another fire happened southeast of Los Angeles in Orange and Riverside counties on Saturday morning, burning 809 hectares in the communities of Yorba Linda, Brea, Anaheim, and Corona. More than 100 apartments and houses were damaged or destroyed. In Anaheim, 12600 people were ordered to evacuate while 10000 more were asked to leave their homes in the Sylmar area.

I think this was a really huge disaster for Los Angeles. This Sayre fire caused a huge destruction and many homes were destroyed. Many people had to be evacuated so that they would not be caught in the fire. The citizens of Los Angeles will lose a lot of money because of this tragedy.

Questions:

1. What do you think the government of USA could do to help the evacuated citizens?
2. How did you think the fires started?
